City Denies Rumors Of Drogba Signing

Manchester City have denied rumours that they are looking to hijack Chelsea’s deal to bring Didier Drogba. The Ivory Coast international has been heavily linked with a return to Chelsea in the last few days. He is a free agent after leaving Galatasaray at the end of last season. He initially left Chelsea back in 2012 just a month after helping the club win the Champions League title. After have been in discussions with the likes of Juventus over a short-term contract, it looks like Drogba will be returning to his former stamping ground on a one-year contract.

He is also expected to take a role as one of the coaches alongside Jose Mourinho. Drogba is regarded as one of the heroes at Chelsea and this move will be welcomed by supporters. Manchester City, however, were linked with a surprise offer for the forward, as they are reportedly considering the sale of striker Alvaro Negredo. The Spaniard failed to score in 16 matches in the second half of last season and he is linked with a return to Spain. This would leave Manuel Pellegrini’s team short of strikers especially considering that Sergio Aguero has been struggling with fitness for some time.

An experienced campaigner in the Premier league, Drogba has scored more than 150 league goals for Chelsea. At 36 years of age, he will be providing backup to the likes of Diego Costa and Romelu Lukaku if he moves to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea have undergone massive changes since the arrival of Jose Mourinho. The club reluctantly parted ways with Frank Lampard, who is expected to come back in the similar fashion a few years down the line according to Mourinho. The Chelsea manager claimed that Roman Abramovich is ready to offer Lampard any role he wants at the club
