SIMILARITIES IN STRIKERS

Former Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge has stated that he feels Fernando Torres and Luiz Suarez are very much similar to each other.

The England international has played with both these players extensively and he feels that there is not much to separate them. Torres is considered as one of finest strikers to have put on the Liverpool shirt, while the same can also be said of Suarez as well. After coming to Anfield in a £ 26 million deal from Atletico Madrid, Torres managed to score 81 goals in just 142 matches for the club. Suarez also came to the club for around the same money two years ago.

Sturridge says that Suarez is more like him in that he tries to dribble a lot and confuse his opponents, while Torres looks forward to scoring goals more than anything else. Sturridge has been a hit at Liverpool after joining the club in a £ 12 million deal from Chelsea last January. This season, he has managed to form an excellent partnership with Luis Suarez upfront. The duo have scored 18 goals in the league alone between them. They recently helped Liverpool rescue a point at Goodison Park in the 3-3 draw with Everton.

“I don’t feel there is that much difference between them as they are world-class footballers, although obviously they have contrasting styles. Torres is more of an out-and-out goalscorer and Luis is a bit more like me, where he can play through the middle but drop off and have a dribble at different times. They have both scored goals for fun in the Premier League and Torres was frightening at Liverpool,” said Sturridge.

Suarez scored with a wonderful freekick, while Sturridge equalised in the dying moments of the match. Sturridge has blamed Chelsea for not getting the best out of him.
