The new Chelsea Revolution under manager Andre Villas Boas looks set to bring down the axe on several ageing players in the squad, with one player who was surely in the plans of the boss also leaving the side from Stamford Bridge as well.
Didier Drogba, the talismanic Chelsea and Ivory Coast international forward is all set to leave the Blues, after reports emerged that he has turned down a contract extension at the club and is looking for pastures new. The future of the Ivory Coast international has been in doubt for quite some time now, even when Carlo Ancelotti was in charge of the side when he was not getting the number of games that he would have preferred.
Ever since the 33 year old Villas Boas took over the duties at the beginning of the season, it was always thought he will sell of ageing players and at 34 years old, Didier Drogba is definitely no spring chicken.
However, the performances that Drogba managed to put forward in the limited number of starts highly impressed the Portuguese boss; Drogba is the second highest scorer for Chelsea this season with Daniel Sturridge ahead of him and Torres and Anelka nowhere near him. Chelsea insiders had revealed that the club would sit for an extension with Drogba but now that he has turned down the chance for an extension, it is believed that he might just be looking for one big pay day before he hangs up his boots.
Italian giants AC Milan are favorites to snap up the big striker but he might also move across London to Tottenham Hotspur as Harry Redknapp is said to be a big fan of him. Wherever he goes, Didier Drogba will be sorely missed by the Chelsea team and the fans as well.
