Didier Drogba is undoubtedly a legend for both Chelsea and the Ivorian national team after a successful career with the two teams. He was an enigma while he was playing for the two teams, scoring many important goals for them in the process. Didier Drogba was elevated to the status of being one of the best players in the world especially during his time at Chelsea. His greatest moment in a football shirt would come while playing for the Blues during the 2012 Champions League final. Here are the five games that made Didier Drogba one of the most feared strikers in recent times according to Goal.

  1. Olympique Marseille vs. FC Porto

Didier Drogba impressed a certain Jose Mourinho during the Champions League Group F encounter between his Olympique Marseille team and Portuguese giants FC Porto in the 2003/04 campaign. Drogba was the standout player on the pitch despite ending on the losing side in a 3-2 defeat. The Ivorian legend impressed then FC Porto boss JoseMourinho who promised to sign him once he has the resources. It was not surprising when Mourinhopropelled Chelsea to spend £24m on Drogba in the summer of 2004 shortly after leaving FC Porto for the Abramovich riches at Chelsea.

    1. Chelsea vs. Liverpool

Didier Drogba scored nine goals in nine FA Cup finals as he became the king of cup finals during his time at Chelsea but it’s easy to forget his first goal in a cup final. It came during the 2005 League Cup final. He scored one of the goals as Chelsea beat Liverpool 3-2 at the end of extra time to win his first piece of silverware at the club.

  1. Ivory Coast vs. Egypt

Didier Drogba and Ivory Coast needed to beat the Pharaohs of Egypt to boost their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup for the first time. Ivory Coast and Egypt met in the eighth round of the 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in the African section. Drogba scored twice with a goal apiece in each half to lead his team to a 2-0 win over Egypt in the Group of Death. The result was very important as Ivory Coast qualified for their first World Cup at the 2006 tournament ahead of Cameroon and Egypt in the Group of Death.

  1. Chelsea vs. Portsmouth

Didier Drogba scored the only goal of the game as the Blues struggled to see off Portsmouth during the 2010 FA Cup final. Chelsea beat Pompey 1-0 to win the competition and add it to the Premier League title. It was the first double in the history of the club.

  1. Chelsea vs. Bayern Munich

Drogba was the difference between Chelsea and Bayern Munich during the 2012 Champions League final as he helped the Blues to win their maiden Champions League title. Chelsea trailed to a late Thomas Mueller strike during the game and they had to rely on Didier Drogba who produced a bullet header to force extra time after a 1-1 draw at the end of 90 minutes. With both teams failing to add to their tally, penalty shootout was needed. Drogba scored the winning penalty to secure the much coveted trophy for Chelsea.
