Liverpool have identified the former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba as the man to solve the striker crisis at the club. The 34-year-old striker is currently playing for the club Shanghai Shenhua, but the season in the Chinese football is about to get completed.
This means that Didier Drogba will not have any matches to play before the start of the African cup of nations. In order to improve his fitness by the time the tournament starts, it is thought that the Ivory Coast international will be looking to play for another team in the meantime. Liverpool are in a striker crisis at the moment after having sold Andy Carroll on loan deal till the end of the season.
The summer acquisition Fabio Borini has also been recently injured, thus meaning that the Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will be without any other striker other than Luis Suarez for the next three months. This will mean an incredible workload on the Uruguay striker, who has played in every match for the club so far this season. Didier Drogba may have been not offered a contract by Chelsea, but he still regarded as one of the best players in the world after almost single-handedly helping the club win the Champions League last season.
In order to maintain his fitness, Didier Drogba is expected to be training with the Premier league club. However, such a move is subject to the agreement from the Chinese club, while several Premier league conditions also have to be met. It is, however, not new to Merseyside club to bring in a player for a few months after Everton have had extraordinary success with the LA Galaxy star Landon Donovan, who came to the club in two different loan spells. Didier Drogba will captain the Ivory Coast side who have qualified for the African cup of nations in January.
